Choosing playground equipment it’s about designing one smart, scalable system that serves toddlers, older kids & everyone in between without driving up risk, liability, or long-term costs.
Most playgrounds fail because they try to treat all ages the same. But ASTM and CPSC standards don’t. They call for separate heights, access methods and zones. Playground Expedition exists to meet that exact need with commercial-grade equipment built for mixed-age environments. Everything we design is certified, purpose-built and ready for high-volume public use.
Effective 2–12 playgrounds don’t crowd kids into one structure. They separate play by age with equipment for ages 2–5 offering low decks, smaller slides, enclosed paths and simple interaction. Systems for ages 5–12 include taller decks, vertical climbing and more dynamic motion.
Our modular layouts define clear zones, so younger and older children don’t compete for space. This improves visibility, reduces injury risk and solves the most common pain point we hear is how to build one playground for all ages that still feels safe, efficient and fun. With our systems, play value increases while supervision and safety stay clear and manageable.
These are the features that make them perfect for harsh environments. The wave designs add an element of excitement while maintaining a safe max exit speed. The speed is generally under 12m/s per CPSC Guidelines guidelines.
Core Elements of Successful Multi Age Design
Every Playground Expedition system is built around non-negotiable safety requirements. We design to ASTM F1487, follow CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook guidelines and meet ADA accessibility standards.
That means compliant surfacing. Age specific deck heights. Guardrails. And clear transfer zones. We pre plan for fall zones, spacing and inclusive circulation so you don’t have to backtrack.
Our 2-12 years old commercial playground equipment helps reduce liability, meet insurance and safety standards with Playground Expedition. Our designs are built with accessibility in mind, not added later and compliance never takes a back seat to aesthetics. This isn’t just safety talk; it’s risk mitigation you can stand behind. Surfacing and playground installations are available only at select locations for an additional price. Please contact our team for more details.
